2009 Registration Day, Sunday 22 February

Registration Day will be held at the Community Rooms, Brunswick St Oval between 10am and 3pm on Sunday 22 February.

Colts summer pre-season program

This year the FJFC Colts squad offers a comprehensive pre-season training program. Our regular Colts' Camp has been expanded to 3 days at Portsea. Each player participating receives gym membership and a detailed, personalised and supervised program. Click here for full details.

Justin Galligan

The Fitzroy Junior Football Club grieves the tragic passing of one of our young lion hearts.

Justin loved his footy and playing with his mates, representing the club with great commitment from 2001 to 2008.

Always an inspiration to his team mates with his strength and courage, never more so than in his premiership year 2003, when awarded Best Finals Player.

Justin, your mates will play on for you and your spirit will live forever at FJFC and the Brunswick Street Oval.

Much loved, affectionately remembered and greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathies are with Justin's family; parents Mick and Mary and sisters Siobhan and Sarah.

Fitzroy U15 1s claim Grand Final victory

Players battled the elements as a huge storm blew through the park during the first quarter in what was a tough slog for both teams.

Fitzroy ground out a two-goal lead at the main break but broke the game open in the 'premiership' quarter.

Taking a strong lead into the last, fatigue became a factor and Asburton refused to give up but the Roys held on for a well-deserved win.

The league and the Club can be proud of a quality game, played and supported in the right spirit.

On Sunday, six Fitzroy teams competed in the 2008 finals series

After trailing at 3/4 time, the U10 Blues rallied in the last quarter to snatch the game by 4 points. The U11 Browns got up by a gutsy 2 goals in what was a tight tussle all day. The U13 Browns revenged their last season Grand Final loss to worthy opponents, Kew, eventually running out winners by a massive 34 points. The U12 and 13 Golds registered losses, but on the strength of their brilliant season-long performances, will live to fight another day, and the U15 Section 1's impressive win sees them straight into next fortnight's Grand Final.

Well done one and all.

Thanks and congratulations to everyone on another great season.
With the H & A completed, six of our sides move into finals campaigns:
The U13 Browns and U15 Ones play at Schramm's Reserve at 10.30 and 14.45
The U10 Blues and U12 Golds are at Greythorn Park at 10.30 and 14.30
The U11 Browns and U13 Golds are at Richmond at 10.30 and 14.30.

Grand Final night is Sunday 31 August.
Win lose or draw, FJFC is gathering at The Fitzroy Bowling Club.

Final game coming up for U13 Blue stars

Lily and Julia, two of the stars of the U13 Blues, are just about to be delisted from the Club and the U13 Blues.
And not because they're not well and truly holding their own.

Julia, who plays like a veteran in only her first season of football, is a stawlart in defence, while Lily, who is truly a veteran in her third season for the Club, holds down key positions as full forward and centre half forward, constantly showing the boys what dedication and courage are all about - at training and on game day.

But the girls are about to reach the age when they are required to find an all-female team to play in.

Best of luck girls, and thanks from everyone at FJFC. You've contributed so much to the Club and the team.
We know your future Club will be ecstatic to have you and trust that your time with the Roys has
prepared you well for what's ahead - in life and football.

U12 Blues 2 - All Heart

No one can deny it's been a tough season for the U12 Blue 2s but, equally, everyone who's asked to describe this group of Fitzroy Junior footballers comes up with the same description: All heart.

The season started shakily, the wins have been few and far between, but this team keeps improving week by week, and optimism is high for a far better season in 2009.

And that's what the coach, and the boys, are working towards.

On Sunday the squad put in a great game - undoubtedly the best for the season - tackling hard, working as a team, achieving the one percenters that mark a truly courageous outfit, and heartening all their supporters with the improvements they've made, and what they can look forward to.

FJFC continues to support cancer research

Continuing a tradition of support, Fitzroy Junior footballers again joined The Cancer Council and football communities around Victoria by wearing yellow armbands during their matches this weekend. In so doing, the Club and the players showed their support for the people in our community who have been touched by cancer, with everyone digging deep to help fund cancer research with gold coin donations.

Over what has been a long and challenging season for the U14 Golds, the boys have seen and experienced it all.
The joys, the pain, the highs, the lows.
But through it all they have remained determined, as a team and as representatives of their club.

Riding the highs and lows with the U11 Blues

This team gives its all, and us everything - the highs, the lows, and the nail-biting close finishes.

This week, the U11 Blues really tested our nerves, coming up a mere five points shy of ladder leaders, North Brunswick.
A quantum leap from their last outing in Round 2 when the difference was a massive 57 points.

Watch out - the heights we can rise to are incalculable!

Fitzroy's alliance with the Brisbane Lions Football Club continues to grow

BLFC provides much than just generous financial support. They help us with training and education.

In January a group of our coaches were guests at the 'Gabba for several days to gain insights and knowledge of coaching and preparation.
Later this month, some of our older players and their coaches will be spending time with the Lions football department as they prepare for a match in Melbourne.

BLFC are our partners, along with FFC, Fitzroy Reds and CoY in plans to redevelop the community facilities at Fitzroy's historic home, Brunswick Street Oval.

Coming up on July 25 is a chance to be a part of the living and growing connection between BLFC and Fitzroy.

Sometimes, it's the pictures that really tell the story

Fitzroy Junior Football Club is blessed with many dedicated and hard-working volunteers.
Among them are some talented photographers who document the game and the efforts of the kids who play the game.

This week we are treated to the work of our U11 Browns and their photographer, Jeremy Oliver.

Late Sunday afternoon and the winter sun casts its light over the ground at Mount Waverley. The Under 15 - 2 team may not have won but they performed well against the premiership favourites. Injuries and the cold may be taking their toll on this team's bodies but not on their spirits.

FJFC recognises unsung hero

In a football-free week, the Fitzroy Junior Football Club takes the opportunity to dedicate our home page to singing the praises of someone who gives his all for the Club. As an FJFC coach, Guy Hexter volunteers his time to conduct two week-night training sessions and an entire Sunday morning as coach of the U13 Golds. Guy is also fitness and conditioning coordinator for all 17 teams at Fitzroy. On top of that, Guy assists with training for the Colts squad two nights a week and is runner for the Colts on match day. And if that's not enough, he happily mentors up-and coming FJFC footballers and coaches in the making.

Thanks Guy, your efforts are very much appreciated by everyone at FJFC!

At each home match U12 Gold mascot Owie Terrens (and son of coach Dick) runs the scoreboard.
And whether his team comes out on top or misses the four points, Owie can always be relied on to multiply perfectly by six and display his winning smile when adding up the score for the Roys.
This week, the U12 Golds comfortably beat Ivanhoe, so plenty of smiles from Owie Terrens.

Owie is looking forward to playing with the U10s next year, but he can't wait to officially don the guernsey, so every week proudly wears his Fitzroy jumper as he accompanies his dad to the games and training.

Who said young boys can't concentrate?

This group of Fitzroy Juniors is definitely on the up and up. Coming off a fabulous win last week, the U10 Greens have not only come up from Brown, but have the finals firmly in their sights. Adhering to their team motto 'Footy First' the boys defy the common perception that concentration is a fleeting thing. They listen, spell bound, to what their coach has to say, and they give their all for the Fitzroy guernsey. Just watch their march up the ladder and marvel. Go Roys!

Colts Guernsey Presentation

After the final pre-season training session on Thursday night, this year's Colts squad - which includes top and bottom age playes - attended a guernsey presentation that was memorable on many levels.

The fact that all the guernseys hadn't been delivered did nothing to dampen the spirit of the night.

President Jeff Richardson welcomed the players and guests to the Fitzroy Junior Football Club. These included Bill Atherton, Secretary of the Fitzroy Football Club, Tim Livingstone, Victorian Manager of the Brisbane Lions, and Fitzroy great, Colin Hobbs.

In so doing, Jeff looked forward to a great season in 2008, recognised the ongoing support of the Brisbane Lions, and paid tribute to the original Fitzroy Football Club whose colours we wear, whose song we sing, and whose traditions we play for and work to keep alive in our close-knit community.
